Karura Forest visitors now required to pay entry, parking fees via e-Citizen

Starting August 29, 2025, payments for gate entry, parking, and other services in the forest, including the Sigiria block, must be made using the official e-Citizen Paybill number 222222.

Visitors to Nairobi’s Karura Forest will now be required to make all entry and parking payments exclusively through the government’s e-Citizen platform, in line with a directive from the National Treasury to phase out non-designated payment channels.

Starting Friday, August 29, 2025, payments for gate entry, parking, and other services in the forest, including the Sigiria block, must be made using the official e-Citizen Paybill number 222222.

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) explained that the move is part of a nationwide effort to improve transparency, security, and efficiency in public revenue collection.

“This transition is part of a nationwide initiative to improve transparency, security, and efficiency in public service delivery while making your experience more convenient,” KFS said.

“All other activities and services in Karura Forest will continue as usual, and our collaboration with the Community Forest Association remains unchanged,” the service added, reassuring visitors that normal operations will not be disrupted. The forest remains a popular destination for jogging, cycling, nature walks, and picnics, attracting thousands of Nairobi residents and tourists alike.

Officials encouraged visitors to embrace the digital system while providing feedback to help improve services.

“We invite you to continue enjoying Karura Forest and welcome your feedback to help us enhance our services,” KFS said.

The e-Citizen platform allows Kenyans to access a wide range of government services, including renewing driving licenses, applying for passports, and registering businesses.

President William Ruto, in August 2023, directed all government agencies to adopt a single official paybill, 222222, to improve efficiency and ensure no data is lost.

All ministries, state departments, and agencies are also required to report their progress on onboarding government services onto e-Citizen ahead of the September 30 deadline, with the aim of making all payments for public services progressive through eCitizen.go.ke.
