Six candidates shortlisted for KNCHR chairperson role, interviews set for May 27

Six candidates have been shortlisted for the position of Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), as the recruitment process moves into its final stages with the interview date set for May 27.
Those shortlisted are Victor Okoth Ogwang Lando from Nakuru, Selina Amsugut Iseme, Claris Awour Ogangah, Edward Katama Ngeywa from Trans Nzoia, Duncan Oburu Ojwang from Homa Bay, and Michael Peter Otieno Okelloh from Siaya. They were selected from a total of 17 applicants.

The announcement was made by the selection panel chairperson, Irene Asienga, through a public notice on Tuesday.
“The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at Harambee House, 12th Floor Boardroom, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi. The candidates should be at the venue at least thirty (30) minutes before the starting time,” Asienga said.
Each candidate is required to carry a valid National ID or passport, academic and professional certificates, transcripts, and any supporting documents.
They must also submit clearance documents from the Higher Education Loans Board, Kenya Revenue Authority, Credit Reference Bureau, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
A stamped self-declaration form from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is also required, along with a recommendation letter from any relevant professional body, where applicable.
Asienga warned against attempts to influence the process. “Canvassing for this position will lead to automatic disqualification,” she said.
The panel is also inviting public input on the candidates through sworn affidavits.
“Members of the public are invited to avail any credible information of interest relating to any of the shortlisted candidates (through sworn affidavits) to the Chairperson, Selection Panel for the Nominees for Appointment as Chairperson, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, Harambee House 12th Floor Boardroom, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi or e-mailed to [email protected] so as to be received on or before 5.00 pm May 26, 2025,” Asienga said.
