Heavy rainfall expected across Kenya from Friday, weatherman warns
The intense rains will hit key areas including Nairobi, Kisumu, and other regions across the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and North Western Kenya.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning of moderate to heavy rainfall expected to affect several parts of the country starting Friday, August 8.
The intense rains will hit key areas including Nairobi, Kisumu, and other regions across the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and North Western Kenya.

According to the weather agency, counties in the Central Highlands such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi will experience persistent rainfall.
Similarly, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties will also experience rainfall.
Other counties expecting similar rain patterns include Kericho, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
The meteorological department described the rains as ongoing moderate to heavy, saying, “Ongoing moderate (5–20mm) to heavy (>20mm) rains across the country. Scattered rainfall is being experienced and is expected to continue and intensify over several parts of the country.”
The department urged the public to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in areas known for poor drainage, dusty conditions, or strong winds.

While most parts of the country will experience rain, the South-eastern lowlands are expected to remain mostly cloudy but dry over the weekend.
These counties include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, as well as parts of inland Tana River County.
Cold and cloudy spells will be felt over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, and the Rift Valley.

Temperatures are expected to drop in certain areas, especially in Central Kenya. Counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi should prepare for temperatures ranging between 10°C and 12°C.
Kenya Meteorological Department also warned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds reaching speeds of over 25 knots. These winds are expected along the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
