KNH ordered to produce medical records of murder suspect Kennedy Kalombotole

Principal magistrate Daisy Mutahi directed that the records be produced in court on Thursday before making a decision on whether to grant police 21 days they seek to investigate Kalombotole.

A Kibera Court has ordered Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to produce medical records of Kennedy Kalombotole, a suspect in the murder of two patients at the facility.

Principal magistrate Daisy Mutahi directed that the records from both KNH and Nairobi Women's Hospital be produced in court on Thursday, before making a decision on whether to grant police 21 days they seek to investigate Kalombotole.

Kalombotole has been detained at Kilimani police station until July 24, when the medical report will be availed.

In a miscellaneous application before court, the investigating team is yet is obtain samples for DNA from Kalombotole, which will be compared with those from the exhibits recovered from the scene and the deceased body.

"The autopsy on the body of the deceased is yet to be conducted by a government pathologist to ascertain the cause of death and collect samples for analysis at the Government Chemist," the documents state.

The investing officer says Kalombotole was arrested on July 18, 2005, at Kenyatta National Hospital, where he had been admitted and discharged but held pending conclusion of another similar case which occurred on the night of February 6 and 7, 2025.

Due to work constraints, the investigating team said they have not been able to have enough time to conduct normal police procedures, including fingerprint impression and statement recording.

"The respondent was arrested at the place where he has been admitted since November 2024, and no records of his place of abode and therefore a flight risk. Hence, if released on bail, there is likely hood of his absconding and interfering with our investigations."

The miscellaneous application adds that the manner in which the deceased was killed caused anger and is still fresh in the memory of the family and close members of the community who are yet to come into terms with incident.

Kalombotole is linked to the murder of Edward Mainge Ndegwa at Kenyatta National Hospital 7th floor ward 7C on July 17.
