Operation to arrest criminals who killed two KWS officers in Marsabit is on

The two officers, including an assistant warden, were ambushed within the shores of Lake Turkana at the Karsa gate in Sibiloi, a month ago.

Marsabit's Loiyangalani Sub-County police boss Nicholas Mutua has revealed an ongoing joint security operation by the police and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers seeking to arrest criminals who shot dead two KWS officers while on patrol within Sibiloi National Game Reserve in North Horr.

The two officers, including an assistant warden, were ambushed on the shores of Lake Turkana at the Karsa gate in Sibiloi, a month ago.

During an interview on Marsabit's Radio Jangwani FM, the police commander revealed that the criminals, after committing the heinous act, fled towards Moite village in neighbouring Laisamis Constituency.

"The operation is geared towards smoking the criminals out of their hideouts, arresting and prosecuting them for the offence," he said.

He maintained that the operation would continue until all the suspects were arrested.

Two fierce gunfights ensued the following day between three armed criminals and security officers who were pursuing them.

Initial police reports had indicated that the criminals' footprints had been traced to a hill near Kambi Turkana.
