According to a police report filed under OB 05/06/04/2025 at Got Oyaro Police Station, the matter was reported by the area chief of Kwa Kadimu East Location.
Officers from Got Oyaro Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Rachuonyo North responded to the scene, approximately six kilometres from the station.
Upon arrival, police found the officer’s lifeless body hanging from the roof of his sitting room with a sisal rope. In the same house, the bodies of three children were discovered — one on the couch and two on a bed in the bedroom.
All three children are suspected to have been poisoned, as vomit was visible in their mouths according to the police report.
“No physical injuries were observed on any of the bodies,” the police report stated.
Investigations revealed that the deceased had recently picked the children up from his in-laws’ home, where they had been staying with their mother. The officer’s wife had reportedly returned to her parents’ home with the children weeks earlier.
A suicide note recovered from the scene pointed to a domestic dispute as the motive for the murder-suicide. In the handwritten note, the officer expressed deep frustration with personal, family, and workplace issues.
He gave detailed instructions regarding the distribution of his belongings, stating that his property should be divided equally, and he outlined his funeral preferences.
A plastic bottle containing an unknown substance, suspected to be the poison used, was recovered from the house and submitted as evidence for forensic analysis by the Government Chemist.
The scene was documented by the Scenes of Crime (SOC) team, and the bodies were moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
