Sarah Wairimu charged afresh over false passport claim
Sarah Wairimu remains in custody at the Lang'ata Women's Prison, where she is also on trial for the 2019 murder of her husband.
Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, widow of slain Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen, has been charged afresh with giving false information to the police and swearing a false affidavit regarding the alleged loss of her passport.
Wairimu appeared before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul at the Kibera Law Courts on Friday, where she denied both counts. She remains in custody at the Lang'ata Women's Prison, where she is also on trial for the 2019 murder of her husband.

The prosecution, led by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), told the court that on February 20, 2023, at Munyange Police Station in Othaya, Nyeri County, Wairimu allegedly provided misleading information to Chief Inspector Mercy Riungu, the Officer Commanding the Station (OCS).
According to the charge sheet, Wairimu reported that her passport had been lost, a claim investigators later established to be false. She is further accused of making an affidavit reinforcing the same false claim.
In a second count, Wairimu was accused of false swearing contrary to Section 114 as read with Section 36 of the Penal Code.
It is alleged that on the same dates at Pamki House in Nyeri Town, she appeared before Advocate Muchiri wa Gathoni and swore a false affidavit claiming her passport was lost, knowing it was not.
Wairimu denied the allegations, maintaining her innocence through her lawyer.
The prosecution requested that the case be mentioned at a later date for further directions. They also sought that she be denied bail pending trial.
Trial court remanded Wairimu until November 27 for pre-trial mention.
The court fixed the matter for mention as the murder case against Wairimu continues separately before the High Court.
The prosecution has lined up 78 witnesses in the Tob Cohen murder case, with testimony revealing how Cohen's body was discovered concealed inside a cemented underground water tank at his Kitisuru home.
