Harambee Stars to face Senegal, Equatorial Guinea in revised friendly fixtures

With a youthful, energetic squad and renewed optimism under McCarthy, the Harambee Stars will aim to demonstrate resilience, tactical discipline, and attacking flair as they continue their rebuild toward future major tournaments.

Kenya’s Harambee Stars are scheduled to play two high-profile international friendly matches in Antalya, Turkey, during the upcoming FIFA window from November 10 to 18, 2025.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed a revision to the initial fixture list, with the team now set to face Equatorial Guinea and Senegal instead of the previously planned matches against Madagascar and Comoros.

The Stars will kick off their Turkish tour against Equatorial Guinea on November 14 at the Emir Complex, followed by a clash with former African champions Senegal on November 18 at the Mardan Stadium. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm, East African Time.

Head coach Benni McCarthy has made several changes to the squad ahead of the training camp, calling up Kevin Otiende from Nairobi United and the Gor Mahia duo of Bryson Wangai and Sharif Musa. The trio replaces Manzur, Adam Wilson, and Vincent Harper, who have been ruled out of the fixtures due to various reasons.

The team will report to a local training camp on Sunday, November 9, before departing for Turkey on Wednesday, November 12.

McCarthy emphasised that the two friendlies will be crucial for testing new combinations, refining tactical approaches, and building team chemistry as Kenya prepares for the upcoming continental qualifiers.

The final squad features a mix of home-based and foreign-based players.

Notable inclusions are Timothy Ouma of Lech Poznań, Duke Abuya of Yanga SC, and Aldrine Kibet of Celta Vigo, who will join forces with experienced local talents such as Alpha Onyango, Boniface Muchiri, and Byrne Omondi.

Kenya’s second opponent, Senegal, has announced a strong 27-man squad under head coach Pape Thiaw as they gear up for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Teranga Lions will first face Brazil on November 15 in Antalya before turning their focus to Kenya three days later.

Thiaw’s squad includes some of Africa’s most celebrated players, such as Sadio Mané, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Édouard Mendy, along with English Premier League stars Idrissa Gana Gueye, Iliman Ndiaye, Ismaila Sarr, Nicolas Jackson, and Pape Matar Sarr.

Senegal is expected to use the friendlies to fine-tune their preparations ahead of their AFCON title defence. For Kenya, the two fixtures offer a valuable opportunity to assess their progress against elite competition.

With a youthful, energetic squad and renewed optimism under McCarthy, the Harambee Stars will aim to demonstrate resilience, tactical discipline, and attacking flair as they continue their rebuild toward future major tournaments.
