Over 5,300 land parcels set for allocation in Mandera

Baraqwo leads the allocation with 1,471 parcels, while Heleshid follows with 1,155, and smaller allocations include 52 parcels under the EPP in Block 10.

The National Land Commission (NLC) has announced plans to allocate and regularise the tenure of 5,317 land parcels across ten localities in Mandera County.

The public notice, issued by the Commission, states that the allocation will cover areas including Baraqwo, Koromey, Neboi, Heleshid, the Central Business District (CBD), and designated high- and low-density residential zones.

According to the notice, the parcels are distributed across Blocks 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 and have been earmarked for a variety of uses. These range from residential and commercial developments to environmental conservation, with the Environmental Protection Programme (EPP) block specifically set aside to support conservation initiatives.

Baraqwo leads the allocation with 1,471 parcels, while Heleshid follows with 1,155, and smaller allocations include 52 parcels under the EPP in Block 10.

"Notice is hereby given that at the expiry of 30 days from the date of publication of this notice the NLC on behalf of the County Government of Mandera intends to allocate/regularize tenure of the following parcels of land in Block 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 for various land uses (subject to terms, covenants, conditions and reservations which shall be included in the conveyance document) in accordance with section 14 of the Land Act 2012," the notice read in part.

All the parcels have been planned and surveyed, and ownership details can be accessed at the offices of the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Lands in Mandera County, the Director of Surveys in Nairobi, and the NLC offices during working hours.

The Commission has invited members of the public and other stakeholders to submit any comments or objections to the Chairman of the NLC within 15 days from the date of publication of the notice. In the absence of objections, the allocation process will commence at the Commission’s offices in Nairobi at 2:30 p.m. on the next working day following the expiry of the notice.

The NLC emphasised that the full terms of allocation are available at their Nairobi offices as well as at the office of the NLC Coordinator in Mandera County.

"The parcels are planned and surveyed, and ownership details may be inspected at the offices of the CECM in charge of Lands, Mandera County, Director of Surveys, Nairobi and NLC offices during working hours," said NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi.
