Harambee Stars start training for Mapinduzi Cup
The Harambee Stars have kicked off their preparations for the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup with their first training session at Mpesa Foundation Academy. As they focus on building a strong team for both the upcoming tournament and the African Nations Championship (CHAN), coach Francis Kimanzi and defender Charles Momanyi share their thoughts on the team’s goals and motivation
The Harambee Stars have officially started their training camp at the Mpesa Foundation Academy in preparation for the Mapinduzi Cup. The tournament will be held in Zanzibar from 3rd to 13th January 2025.
Head coach Francis Kimanzi was pleased with the first session, saying the team is focused on building a solid base for both the Mapinduzi Cup and the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

“Today was our first session with a large squad. We tested all the players and introduced some new tactics. Everyone will have a chance to prove themselves as we work on building the team. While we are focused on the Mapinduzi Cup, we are also preparing for CHAN,” said Kimanzi.

The squad, which includes both experienced players and new talent, is taking part in tactical drills to ensure they are ready for the tournament.
Defender Charles Momanyi noted the players’ high motivation and the importance of the Mapinduzi Cup for their future preparations.
“It was a great first session, and everyone is motivated. With so many players, everyone is eager to show what they can do. The Mapinduzi Cup is an important step in our preparation for CHAN,” said Momanyi.
The team will continue training at the academy, focusing on improving tactics and evaluating player readiness ahead of their trip to Zanzibar.
