Karua dismisses 2027 opposition line-up speculation as premature

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has dismissed ongoing speculation about a 2027 political line-up within the United Opposition, stating that no official proposals have been presented or endorsed by the principal leaders.
Speaking during an interview on NTV, Karua raised concern over what she described as premature and misleading information being circulated, warning those within their ranks against leaking proposals that have not been formally debated.

"I want to caution those among our ranks to stop leaking information that has not been agreed upon, including proposed line-ups. I’m seeing a line-up. If any proposals by our technical team have not been debated by the principals, it is not the truth,” Karua said.
Karua made it clear that no discussions had taken place among the top leadership on any proposed arrangements, urging restraint.
“If there are such proposals, and I wouldn't know because nothing has been tabled, stop giving people positions and all that. Just leave the process to take its course.”
While confirming that organisational efforts are underway, Karua emphasised that their unity must go beyond merely calling for President William Ruto’s removal from office.
“We not only want Ruto and his entire regime to go; we also want a transformed Kenya,” she said.
Karua revealed that various technical teams within the opposition are working on multiple areas, including coalition-building and governance proposals.
She stressed that governance remains a central concern for the opposition, highlighting issues such as the failure to uphold the rule of law and widespread corruption.
The PLP party leader also ruled out any possibility of engaging in dialogue with President Ruto’s administration, accusing the Kenya Kwanza government of dishonesty and labelling it a regime that thrives on impunity.
“Dialogue with the current regime is not an option,” Karua said, adding that she had warned against the 2023 National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) talks even while still in Azimio. “I cautioned against those talks from the beginning,” she said.
Reflecting on the NADCO process, Karua said it failed to produce meaningful results for ordinary citizens, instead benefiting only political elites.
