Kenyan Muslim organisations launch Sh5.4 million Udhiyah programme for Gaza amid deepening humanitarian crisis

A coalition of Kenyan Muslim organisations has pledged Sh5.4 million to fund a humanitarian programme providing food to Gaza residents during Eid-ul-Adha.

The initiative is being led by the Voice of Palestine, a collective of organisations including the Jamia Mosque Committee, Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF), Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Practitioners (KAMMP), and several Nairobi-based mosques.
The programme targets the population of Gaza facing food shortages as a result of ongoing bombardment by Israeli forces on Palestinians.
According to a statement by the consortium, over 52,000 Palestinians have been killed, thousands are missing, and more than two million people have been displaced.
Unprecedented humanitarian crisis
“We stand at a critical juncture where humanity calls us to action. The people of Gaza, Palestine, are enduring a genocide and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, marked by immense suffering and loss,” read part of the statement.
The statement also urged the government of Israel to allow immediate access to humanitarian corridors. It emphasised the need for unimpeded delivery of essential supplies, including food, medicine, and shelter, to the affected areas in Gaza.
“We urgently implore the governments of Israel to open all borders and humanitarian corridors without delay,” the statement read. “The right to survival must be upheld.”
The consortium called on the Kenyan Parliament to include the Gaza crisis in its agenda and to initiate discussions on Kenya’s possible role in peacebuilding efforts.
It emphasised the importance of using Kenya’s diplomatic channels to advocate for peace and human rights protection in Gaza and the wider Palestine region.
“We call upon the Kenyan Parliament to prioritise this crisis on its agenda,” the statement added. “We urge His Excellency the President of Kenya to issue an official government position on the crisis and call for an unequivocal ceasefire.”
The statement also encouraged the Muslim community in Kenya to continue praying and seeking divine guidance to end the conflict. It appealed to all Kenyans, regardless of religion or background, to support Gaza through solidarity and humanitarian contributions.
