Mother's Day: Mandera leaders take gift hampers to county hospital

Local leaders in Mandera County marked Mother's Day by visiting the Mandera County Referral Hospital to celebrate and honour new mothers.
Led by Social Services executive Sumeya Bishar, they handed new mothers items, including gift hampers.

In her address, Sumeya emphasised the importance of appreciating mothers, saying they are indispensable.
"It's a good time to value our mothers because, without them, nothing will go on smoothly," she said, noting the gifting was in recognition of their strength, resilience, and love for families and communities.
She added that the gesture showed mothers are valued and their important roles are acknowledged by both the government and society as a whole.
Sumeya further said the county is committed to supporting new mothers by addressing their social welfare needs.
Farhiya Hussein, the chief officer for women empowerment in the Mandera County Government, commended the group on the unique celebration, noting the need to "celebrate mothers every day, not just on special occasions like Mother's Day."
