Gabriel Oguda, Sossion among 109 shortlisted for principal secretary jobs

Successful candidates will serve as accounting officers for their respective state departments, manage financial and human resources, and oversee the development and implementation of performance systems

Former nominated Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion, former Nairobi governor Anne Kananu Mwenda, former Chief Administrative Secretary David Michael Otieno Osiany, and social media commentator Gabriel Oguda are among 109 candidates shortlisted for principal secretary roles by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The list also includes former Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary general Oluga Fredrick Ouma.

The shortlisted individuals will undergo interviews at the PSC offices off Harambee Avenue in Nairobi, with dates and times to be published on the commission’s website.

PSC Chairperson Anthony Muchiri noted that the vacancies arose due to recent reassignments in various executive positions, prompting the need for new appointees.

The announcement comes after current principal secretaries signed performance contracts at State House, signifying an anticipated reshuffle in the administration.

Applications for the positions were open from November 20 to December 4, 2024.

“Article 155(3)(a) of the Constitution mandates the Public Service Commission to recommend individuals for nomination and appointment as Principal Secretaries. In line with this constitutional provision, the PSC invited applications from qualified candidates,” the advert read.

To qualify, applicants were required to demonstrate a thorough understanding of government operations, proven leadership and management skills, and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

Shortlisted candidates have been urged to carry original documents to their interviews, including their national identity card, academic and professional certificates with transcripts, and any supporting documents or testimonials.

Additionally, candidates must provide valid clearances from the Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board, a registered credit reference bureau, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and either a printed online self-declaration application acknowledgement receipt or a stamped self-declaration form from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

Where applicable, recommendations from relevant professional bodies and associations are also required.

PSC has also invited members of the public to submit credible information regarding any of the shortlisted candidates through sworn affidavits to the Secretary/CEO or via email at [email protected] before January 24, 2025.
