Former ICT Cabinet Secretary Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u has declined her nomination as Kenya’s ambassador to Ghana, just weeks after being demoted by President William Ruto in a cabinet reshuffle.

Her rejection follows that of former West Mugirango MP Vincent Mogaka Kemosi, who also turned down the same ambassadorial position in April last year.
In a letter to the National Assembly’s Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations, Ndung’u confirmed her decision not to appear for vetting, citing her refusal of the appointment.
In 2018, two other diplomatic appointees also rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominations.
Former Mandera Central MP Abdikadir Mohamed turned down the role of ambassador to South Korea, citing personal reasons and his young family.
Ndung’u’s decision highlights her view of the appointment as a demotion, having served at the Cabinet level before being nominated to a lower-profile role with less prestige.
