President Ruto's promise to Kenyans over Unga prices

President William Ruto has reassured Kenyans that the government has a comprehensive plan for the country's food production so that Kenya doesn't go back to the era when its citizens complained of lack of food and going hungry.

 Ruto said that Kenyans will not go back to when they were buying a 2kg packet of maize flour at Sh230.

"We will never go back there again and God will help us. We will have enough food to feed our citizens. That is our plan," Ruto said during a church service in Riruta Dagoretti South on Sunday.

The President thanked God for the rains which he said the country has helped the country to be able to harvest 44 million bags of maize this year.

He recounted when they were mocked as they congregated and prayed for the rains at Nyayo Stadium in February this year.

"Some people even laughed at us when we prayed for the rains. We had a plan. We sat down with farmers and bought fertilizer and seeds for them. But without God bringing us rains, all these measures we put in place would have been in vain," Ruto said.

"Did God give us rain or not? This year, God has given us rains we haven't seen for close to four years. For the last four seasons, we've never received a harvest like the one we have received this year. We thank God for that."

El Nino rains

The President at the same time announced that despite the Kenya Meteorological Department warning that the country will receive El Nino rains, the weatherman has since downgraded the alert.

"We thank God that we won't have El Nino rains but only short rains which we are prepared for so that our farmers can have another harvest between January and February next year," Ruto said.

The President once again reiterated that the only solution to Kenya's problems is not going to protest in the streets.

"If there should be protests, let the protests be at our farms. The maize flour does not come from the shops but from the farms," he said.
