I will win again – Ruto dismisses 2027 election threats from opponents

The President stressed that his current priority was to fulfil his mandate and prioritise the interests of Kenyans. “What I know is that I won’t fail this test—I will emerge the winner,” he added.

President William Ruto has expressed confidence in securing victory in the 2027 general elections, asserting that no opponent will be able to defeat him.

Speaking in Runyenjes town, Embu County, on the fourth day of his tour of the Mt Kenya region, President Ruto boldly challenged his political rivals, insisting they should prepare for a fierce contest.

“I have no doubt that I will win with a majority of votes in 2027. You elected MCAs, MPs, Senators, Governors, and myself to serve you. So, everyone should focus on doing their job. When the time comes, Kenyans will decide who is best based on performance,” he said.

The President stressed that his current priority was to fulfil his mandate and prioritise the interests of Kenyans. “What I know is that I won’t fail this test—I will emerge the winner,” he added.

He also affirmed his strong working relationship with his Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki, describing their partnership as unbreakable.

“My deputy and I are inseparable. We are working together to unite all Kenyans,” Ruto stated.

In a key announcement, Ruto introduced his nominee for Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Geoffrey Ruku, to enthusiastic applause. Ruku, the Mbeere North MP, has been appointed to replace Justin Muturi, who was dismissed over allegations of incompetence and absenteeism.

“Now that Ruku has been endorsed by the locals, he can begin work immediately,” the President said.

During the event, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire appealed for investment in infrastructure, requesting the construction of Kianjokoma and Kathageri markets to spur economic growth, as well as a Sh100 million upgrade for Runyenjes Sub-County Hospital to Level Four status.

“Once you fulfil our requests, I will ensure that you are the best,” Mbarire said.

President Ruto also came to the defence of Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, following criticism over his attendance at a political rally in Nyeri on Wednesday.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) had called for an apology or resignation from the IG, accusing him of breaching the principle of political neutrality.

Ruto dismissed the claims, asserting that the IG had merely been fulfilling his official duties.

“The IG was on official duty accompanying me on my Mt Kenya development tour,” the President said, urging Kenyans not to politicise the matter.

“Even when the IG is not present, he is represented by many officers at our meetings. In Nyeri, we had over 300 police officers deployed, so why single out the IG?”

Ruto urged citizens to concentrate on the government’s development agenda rather than engaging in constant political bickering.

“When election time comes, we will put on our official gear and face off with others,” he said.
