Kenya to experience intense rainfall over the next week, weatherman warns

As the rains continue over the next seven days, the weatherman has urged citizens across the country to remain cautious of potential disruptions caused by the weather and to follow safety guidelines.

Rainfall is expected to intensify across Kenya over the next week, with the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) predicting more morning rains and afternoon thunderstorms in several regions.

Counties such as Kiambu, Nakuru and Kisumu will experience significant rainfall, potentially affecting daily activities.

The weather department has urged Kenyans to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the rains will persist.

According to the latest weather forecast released on Tuesday, the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and the Lake Victoria Basin will experience morning rains, which will give way to sunny intervals. However, afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur over several areas, and night showers will spread to different places.

"Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places. Night showers are expected over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places," the KMD noted.

Specific areas such as Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok counties are likely to experience these conditions.

Thunderstorms

The northern region, including counties like Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will witness morning rains, followed by afternoon and night showers. These areas are also likely to experience thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.

In Nairobi, the forecast predicts cloudy weather with light rains in the morning. However, afternoon and night showers are expected, with thunderstorms likely to occur in a few places, especially during the evening.

Nairobi residents are advised to prepare for wet conditions throughout the day, with the possibility of sporadic rainfall.

"Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over a few places, occasionally spreading to several places," the department added.

The department also predicts that coastal regions, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and parts of Tana River, will experience showers throughout the day — morning, afternoon and night.

This will be in addition to other parts of the country, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties, which are also expected to see light rains in the morning and thunderstorms later in the day.

As the rains continue over the next seven days, the weatherman has urged citizens across the country to remain cautious of potential disruptions caused by the weather and to follow safety guidelines.
