Daytime temperatures will also stay high in parts of the Coast, Northeastern and Northwestern regions, where the department said maximum temperatures above 30°C are expected.
Similar conditions may also be felt in some areas of the Southeastern lowlands and the Highlands west of the Rift Valley.
At the same time, the forecast shows that night temperatures will drop below 10°C in parts of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and areas around Mt Kilimanjaro.
In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, mornings will have sunny breaks, although isolated rains are possible.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms should be expected in a few places early in the week, spreading to more areas as the days go by. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy with chances of rainfall in some places.
Northwestern Kenya will be sunny during the day with partly cloudy nights, but isolated showers and morning rain may occur later in the week.
For residents in the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, the department says mornings will be cloudy with occasional rainfall.
Afternoon showers are expected to increase as the week progresses. Northeastern Kenya, the southeastern lowlands and the coast will likely receive showers in the morning, afternoon and at night in some areas, spreading wider toward the end of the week.
A review of the past week shows rain was recorded across many parts of the country, with heavy downpours in Machakos, Kitui, Kilifi, Isiolo and Murang’a. The highest weekly amount was at ADC Japata in Trans Nzoia, where 184mm was recorded, while Kivingoni in Machakos received 130mm in 24 hours.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged the public and county officials to keep following daily updates due to changing conditions.
Recent heavy rainfall has triggered flash floods, landslides and large-scale damage, leading to loss of lives and displacement. In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration said the ongoing October–November–December short rains have caused “tragic loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property” in several counties.
