Governor Natembeya granted Sh500,000 cash bail, ordered to stay away from county office

In total, the court issued 15 conditions that Natembeya must adhere to, warning that any violation would result in serious consequences, including the cancellation of bail or bond.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been granted a bond of Sh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 in connection with a Sh3 million graft case.

Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Ondieki, while granting the governor bail, imposed a number of strict conditions, including a 60-day ban from accessing the county office. Natembeya was also barred from leaving Kenya without prior approval from the court.

Additionally, the governor was ordered not to discuss the case publicly.

In total, the court issued 15 conditions that Natembeya must adhere to, warning that any violation would result in serious consequences, including the cancellation of bail or bond.

“Any breach of the conditions shall attract attendant consequences, including cancellation of bond or bail,” stated Magistrate Ondieki.

Earlier, the governor had been charged with three counts of corruption, including the acquisition of public property through a conflict of interest.

The prosecution had opposed his release, citing security concerns and the seriousness of the alleged offences. However, his defence team argued that bail is a constitutional right and insisted the arrest was politically motivated.
