Juja MP George Koimburi stage-managed his own abduction - IG of Police Kanja

Before Koimburi got out of the car, Gatana told the police that they helped him (Koimburi) tear his clothes to fake evidence of torture.
Juja MP George Koimburi faked his own abduction, according to findings released by the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohamed Amin, revealing what they described as a carefully orchestrated plan involving close associates and staged scenes.
Koimburi, who was said to have gone missing after a church service on Sunday, was later found at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation in Kiambu County.

His family claimed his life was in danger, citing videos that showed him in distress. But police now say it was all part of an elaborate setup.
However, Inspector General Kanja on Wednesday said investigations revealed that the MP acted on instructions from Peter Kiratu, the chairman of the Juja NG-CDF.
He was directed to Kiratu’s homestead in Mugoda, where he met a man identified as Karanja Gatana, who was driving Kiratu’s Honda CR-V, registration KBP 096W.
Together with three other unidentified men, they went to the church to familiarise themselves with the route before returning.
As narrated by IG, later, Kiratu called and told the MP to drive a Subaru Forester, registration KDG 803B, belonging to Cyrus Kieru, and pick up two men.
“Upon arriving at the church, the men forced Koimburi into the vehicle as screams were heard, creating the illusion of a kidnapping,” Kanja said.
The vehicle was then driven through Kabogoru road to the Jakaranda COVID research area, where the MP told the men to stop near the waiting Honda CR-V.
Koimburi was then left with the two men, who warned him against talking to the police.

“We have recovered two vehicles — the Honda CR-V belonging to Kiratu and the Subaru Forester belonging to Cyrus Kieru. One suspect, Karanja Gatana, has been arrested,” Kanja said.
IG further revealed that Gatana admitted that on May 25, he dropped Koimburi at a hotel where they had drinks and spent the night together with the two supposed abductors.
The next day, still using Kiratu’s vehicle, Gatana picked up the MP and drove him to the scene where he was allegedly found dumped.
Before Koimburi got out, Gatana told the police that they helped him (Koimburi) tear his clothes to fake evidence of torture.
DCI boss Amin Mohamed condemned the MP’s actions.
“It’s quite inconceivable for an MP to go to the extent of stage managing his own abduction. Creating a lot of tension and fear in the country,” he stated.
He said police had traced all of Koimburi’s movements from the church to the hotel and even identified the room he stayed in.
“Unfortunately, we are not able to share that information at this point in time in order not to prejudice our investigations, “ Amin said.
“We were able to explain investigations and to expose him. Responsible to the public as a Member of Parliament, he was indeed not,” he added.
Earlier, police spokesperson Michael Muchiri had denied any police involvement in the incident.
He said Koimburi was under investigation for a land fraud matter and that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had issued consent to prosecute.
In addition, the National Police Service has appealed to the public to support the ongoing investigations and report any useful information to the nearest police station or through their toll-free lines.
