LSK condemns arrest and detention of Rose Njeri, accuses DCI of blocking legal access
LSK claims that DCI officers denied her access to legal counsel and have continued to frustrate efforts by lawyers to secure her release on police bail.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has condemned the alleged unlawful arrest and continued detention of Rose Njeri, a woman reportedly linked to a website associated with the Finance Bill, 2025.
Njeri was reportedly arrested for creating a website where Kenyans can give their views regarding the Bill.

The Society claims that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) denied her access to legal counsel and have continued to frustrate efforts by lawyers to secure her release on police bail.
LSK said it received numerous distress calls from members of the public who claimed to have witnessed Njeri’s arrest on Thursday afternoon.
The Society stated that it quickly assembled a team of advocates to locate her and provide legal assistance.
According to LSK, officers involved in the arrest made deliberate attempts to conceal Njeri’s whereabouts and initially blocked efforts to offer her legal representation.
The Society reported that it was only after extensive efforts that it learned, at around 8:00 pm, that she was being held at Pangani Police Station in Nairobi.
"Our team of advocates proceeded to Pangani Police Station and, after lengthy interventions, were finally granted access to Ms Njeri," stated LSK President Faith Odhiambo.
"However, all efforts to secure her release on police bail have so far been frustrated by the officers in charge, who are yet to cede to requests by counsel to release her."
"As things stand, we are still on the matter and hope to have Rose released and back home with her family," said LSK.
"We ask all members of the public to remain vigilant but calm, and we will provide timely and detailed updates as soon as we make positive progress towards securing her release," the society added.
