President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to Opposition leaders, accusing them of inciting unrest and exploiting the youth for personal political gain.

Speaking during the 9th Edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme in Simotwo, Elgeyo Marakwet County, the President called on the Opposition to prioritise presenting a development agenda to the Kenyan people rather than fueling lawlessness, tribal divisions, and political violence.
“The Opposition must present their development agenda to Kenyans rather than stirring lawlessness, hate, and tribalism,” Ruto said. “We will stand firm against those selfish leaders who exploit our youth to rescue their dwindling political careers.”
Ruto emphasised that his administration would not tolerate the use of young people as tools for political mobilisation and disruption.
He cautioned that individuals funding or encouraging criminal activities under the guise of politics would be held accountable.
“If you engage in the business of inciting people, of paying criminals to cause lawlessness, destroy property, or burn businesses, we will hold you to account, whoever you are,” he warned. “Don’t tell us it is political prosecution."
This comes days after President Ruto ordered police to shoot and injure, not kill, anyone caught looting or destroying property during protests.
“Anyone who burns down someone else’s business and property, let them be shot in the leg and go to the hospital as they head to court. Yes, let them not kill, but shoot and break the legs. Destroying people’s property is not right,” said the President.
He warned that political leaders behind the violent unrest will be held accountable, saying, “It is leaders financing youth to carry out those acts, and we are coming after you!”
