Three suspects in Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were murder case remain in custody as court denies them bond

The five suspects, who have denied the charge, are accused of murdering MP Were on April 30, 2025, near the City Mortuary Roundabout in Kilimani after the DPP consolidated two separate cases from the Kibera and Milimani law courts.
Former Lake Basin Development Authority board member Ebel Ochieng, alias Dave, and two other suspects charged with the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo Were will remain in custody pending trial.
Kibera High Court judge Diana Kavedza, in a ruling delivered on Thursday, denied bond to Ebel, William Imoli, alias Imo, and Edwin Odour Odhiambo, alias Machuani, after the prosecution presented compelling reasons to withhold bail.

The court noted that on June 3, 2025, the accused made statements in court such as “Who is this? Who does not want us to be released?” — words the judge found to be directly aimed at the prosecution.
Justice Kavedza said that such conduct, including openly issuing death threats in a courtroom, amounted to “an egregious manifestation of calculated and malicious intent to instil fear.”
“This threat, made in a public setting, could not be ignored by witnesses, court officers, and the investigating officer,” she said.
Likelihood of interference
The judge further stated that the seriousness of the charges, combined with the accused’s relationships, increased the likelihood of interference, especially given the organised and coordinated manner in which the offence was allegedly committed.
On June 16, 2025, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) applied to have the accused denied bond until the murder case is heard and determined.
The prosecution argued there was a risk of witness interference, a threat of absconding, and a potential danger to public order and safety.
Two other suspects in the case, Isaac Kuria and Allan Omondi, are scheduled to appear in court on September 22, 2025, for a bond hearing.
In an affidavit opposing bail, the investigating officer stated that the firearm used to kill the MP was recovered from Odour; Imoli was allegedly the driver of the vehicle that trailed the deceased from Parliament, with his phone geolocated there for much of the day.
He also said Ochieng procured a phone and fraudulently registered a SIM card used to coordinate the murder, which was later disposed of after the killing.
The five suspects have all denied the murder charge after the DPP consolidated two separate cases previously filed at the Kibera and Milimani law courts. They are accused of murdering Were on April 30, 2025, at around 7:40 pm, near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road in Kilimani, Nairobi County.
