The accident, which occurred at the Exciting area in Ongata Rongai, left him with severe injuries as he headed home. He had remained in critical condition for six days before his death.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Lempurkel belonged to, paid tribute to him on X. “He has departed, but his legacy will live on in our hearts,” Gachagua wrote, describing him as a dedicated public servant.
Lempurkel represented Laikipia North in the eleventh Parliament between 2013 and 2017 on an ODM ticket.
In November 2023, he left ODM for President William Ruto’s UDA, before later joining DCP, the party formed by Gachagua after his impeachment in 2024.
Known for his strong advocacy of Maa rights, Lempurkel often championed issues of land ownership, cultural preservation and community welfare.
Before entering politics, he served as Executive Director of Ndugu Zangu Christian Community Charitable Trust, a Catholic-based organisation that funded heart surgeries for children abroad and spearheaded water projects in Isiolo and Laikipia.
