Selection Panel unveils 61 shortlisted candidates for NLC chair and member positions

In addition to the Chairperson role, 51 individuals are competing for eight member positions. Their interviews are spread across multiple dates, including October 3, 6, 9, 13, and 14, 2025.

The National Land Commission (NLC) is moving closer to filling its leadership positions after the Selection Panel released the list of 61 shortlisted candidates for Chairperson and member roles.

The announcement sets the stage for interviews and invites public scrutiny as the next step in the appointment process.

For the Chairperson position, ten candidates will be interviewed over two days.

On October 1, 2025, Dr Rebecca Kavutha Mutia from Kitui, Dr Abdikadir Oman Aden from Garissa, Gilbert William Opanga from Vihiga, Monicah Nanyumuk Chentrich from Nakuru, and Abuga Kennedy Kaunda from Kisii will face the panel.

Interviews on October 2 will include Nelly Karimi Mbugua from Meru, Prof Saeed Mutua Mwangi from Kitui, Dr Justa Wavinya Mwangi, a person with disability from Embu, Dr Abdillahi Sagaf Alawy from Kwale, and Dr Humphrey Kimani Njuguna from Murang’a.

In addition to the Chairperson role, 51 individuals are competing for eight member positions. Their interviews are spread across multiple dates, including October 3, 6, 9, 13, and 14, 2025.

The Selection Panel explained that the shortlist was drawn after reviewing all applications submitted following the public call on August 27, 2025.

The process also allows the public to raise concerns or submit relevant information regarding any candidate.

“Members of the public are invited to avail any credible information of interest relating to any of the shortlisted candidates through affidavits to the Secretary/CEO via email [email protected] or hand delivered to the Office of the Secretary/CEO, Public Service Commission situated on the 4th floor Commission House, Harambe Avenue, Nairobi on or before September 30, 2025,” the panel said.
