The upgrade will take place between 1:00 am and 2:00 am, during which Fuliza may experience temporary disruptions, though other M-Pesa services will remain active.
Safaricom has scheduled a maintenance update for its Fuliza overdraft service in the early hours of Monday, November 17, to enhance system stability and safeguard transactions.
The upgrade will take place between 1:00 am and 2:00 am, during which Fuliza may experience temporary disruptions, though other M-Pesa services will remain active.

In a notice sent to customers on Saturday, the operator said the update is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital financial platforms and ensure users enjoy “safe, secure and worry-free” services.
"During the maintenance period, Fuliza services may be intermittent. All other M-Pesa services will remain available as usual," the company said, noting that the timing was chosen to minimise inconvenience. Safaricom also apologised for any disruptions and expressed appreciation for users’ patience.
System upgrades like this allow the company to address vulnerabilities, improve processing speed, and enhance backend operations that support new features and future growth.
Fuliza, which allows users to complete payments even when their M-Pesa balance is insufficient, has become a cornerstone of Kenya’s digital payment system. Millions of daily transactions, including bill settlements, merchant payments, and peer transfers, rely on the service.
Customers who depend on Fuliza for urgent payments are advised to plan and monitor transactions closely. Alternative M-Pesa services remain available for those needing immediate transfers during the upgrade window.
Safaricom confirmed that the upgrade does not affect charges, eligibility, or lending terms for Fuliza.
In response to user queries, the company clarified: "Unfortunately, once you opt out of Fuliza your limit is reviewed automatically by the system and at the discretion of the Bank depending on how regularly you've been saving, repaying your loans on time and using other Safaricom services (voice, data and M-Pesa) as the limit cannot be manually adjusted."
For users with zero limits, the operator said loan allocation is automated and considers credit history and Safaricom service usage.
"The system takes into consideration your average Safaricom products and services usage, like data, voice, M-Pesa, your CRB credit score, as well as your savings, before allocating a limit at the discretion of the bank. Please continue using these Safaricom products and services, and once you qualify, you will receive a text message notifying you of the amount you qualified for," Safaricom added.
