Parliament unveils 68 names for 2025 National Honours

Parliament has released a list of 68 individuals recommended for the 2025 National Honours, recognising the contributions of MPs, senators, and key parliamentary officers.

The announcement comes through a notice published during the Thirteenth Parliament, Fifth Session, under Section 8(2) of the National Honours Act, Cap. 216A.

The list features nominees across several award categories, including Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).

Among those proposed for honours are Senate Majority Whip Senator Ledama Olekina, who is up for the EBS, and National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro, nominated for the CBS. Other prominent names include Minority Whip Junet Mohammed, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, and several chairs and vice-chairs of parliamentary committees.

Parliamentary staff are also recognised in the list. Nyegenye Jeremiah Nyegenye, Clerk of the Senate and Secretary of the Parliamentary Service Commission, has been nominated for the CBS, while Samuel Njoroge, Clerk of the National Assembly and Secretary to the Parliamentary Service Commission, is proposed for the EBS.

Other officers included are Millicent Odhiambo, State Superintendent in Audit Services, and Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati, Commissioner at the Commission on Revenue Allocation.

The notice was officially signed by the Joint Secretaries of the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee.
