Kenya Met warns of reduced rainfall but showers to continue in parts of the country

The department said rainfall amounts are expected to drop moderately this week, but showers are still likely in several regions.
Kenya is set to experience a slight dip in rainfall this week, though some regions will still see scattered showers, the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned.
The latest forecast covers the period from October 7 to October 13, 2025, and highlights varying weather conditions across the country.

The department said rainfall amounts are expected to drop moderately this week, but showers are still likely in several regions.
Areas likely to receive precipitation include the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coastal region, South-eastern Lowlands, as well as Western and North-eastern parts of the country.
Daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected over parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions.
Conversely, night-time temperatures could fall below 10°C in some sections of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
In its review of weather conditions between September 29 and October 5, Kenya Met noted rainfall across several parts of the country, particularly in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and Western Kenya. Ndune Rainfall Station in Embu County recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall at 68.3 mm on October 3, 2025.
The highest temperature during the same period was recorded at Mandera Meteorological Station, where daily maximum temperatures reached 38.9°C on September 29. Meanwhile, Nyahururu Meteorological Station reported the lowest daily minimum at 7.6°C on the same day.
The department’s forecast for September 30 to October 6 had indicated rainfall despite generally dry and sunny conditions in some regions. Isolated heavy showers were expected in areas such as the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and parts of North-western Kenya.
Regional predictions showed that counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Kericho, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu were likely to experience morning rainfall in a few areas.
In North-western Kenya, encompassing Turkana and Samburu counties, scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms were forecast, along with occasional morning rains.
For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, and Nairobi, mornings are expected to be partly cloudy followed by sunny intervals. Afternoon showers may occur in isolated locations during the first half of the week and could become more widespread later. Night-time conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy, with a chance of showers in some areas.
