The organisation added that a total of 40 patients had been treated through ambulance services on Thursday.
The public viewing of Raila’s body began on Thursday in what started as a chaotic exercise after mourners breached security at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to join dignitaries receiving the body.
The mourners later followed the convoy to Kasarani Stadium, where at least three people were shot dead by police ahead of the start of the public viewing.
The exercise resumed on Friday afternoon following a requiem mass attended by heads of state, dignitaries, politicians, and Kenyans from all walks of life.
The national funeral committee, led by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, has appealed for calm as the mourning period enters its third day on Saturday, when attention shifts to Kisumu for the final rites ahead of Sunday’s burial.
“We will mourn in dignity. It is a heavy moment, but we must do everything possible to protect the image of our fallen leader,” Kindiki said in an update on Friday night from Karen.
Raila’s body will be airlifted by the military to Mamboleo Grounds in Kisumu on Saturday morning, where it will lie in state for public viewing throughout the day before being transported to Bondo for an overnight vigil ahead of a private interment ceremony on Sunday.
