IPOA investigates alleged assault of minor in Narok's Narosura police custody

In a statement, IPOA emphasised that the investigation will be conducted impartially and in accordance with Article 244 of the Constitution, which establishes the Authority’s mandate to monitor police conduct and uphold human rights standards.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation following allegations that a minor was assaulted while in police custody at Narosura Police Station in Narok South Sub-County.

The child, reportedly arrested on suspicion of a petty offence, is currently receiving treatment at Narok County Referral Hospital.

The minor, identified as Felix Senet Takona, is alleged to have been injured during detention. IPOA is examining the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the alleged assault to determine the extent of police involvement and recommend corrective measures where necessary.

In a statement, IPOA emphasised that the investigation will be conducted impartially and in accordance with Article 244 of the Constitution, which establishes the Authority’s mandate to monitor police conduct and uphold human rights standards.

"In line with its mandate to ensure accountability and the observance of human rights in policing, IPOA is investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged arrest and subsequent injury of the minor. The Authority will determine the extent of police involvement and, where necessary, make appropriate recommendations for redress," the statement reads.

According to reports, the 17-year-old, a Form Two student, was arrested on October 10, 2025, at around 2:00 pm at Narosura shopping centre on suspicion of stealing tractor parts. However, when he was presented in court on October 13, the charge was altered to breaking into a building and committing a felony.

This incident comes months after another case of alleged police brutality in Narok County, in which a woman was reportedly assaulted at Narosura Police Station in April 2025. Graphic images of her injuries circulated on social media, prompting public outcry and an IPOA investigation.
