Raila receives NADCO report, calls for full implementation

By |

Raila said the document is not perfect but a good start and can put the country on the path of stability and progress.

Azimio Leader Raila Odinga has demanded the full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

While speaking when the report was presented to him by the two chairpersons of the committee that came up with the report, Raila claimed that there are leaders within the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza political camps who are against the implementation of the report.

"We must exercise vigilance in the implementation of this report because there are people in both political camps who are against this report, "said Raila.

His claim echoes the sentiments of DAP -Kenya Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa who has given the meeting a wide berth, releasing a statement of dissent.

Wamalwa even asked that he should not be paid his sitting allowances for the period the committee sat.

Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wa said they were able to agree on five thematic areas.

"We agreed on almost 90 per cent of what you tasked us to do. This nation should not forget what led us to this report, "said Ichung'wa.

Ichung'wa said that he has learnt that there is no big task when we're united and have dialogue. "We have learnt our lesson and the best gift we can give to people who lost their lives is to ensure that violence does not become part of our election."

He reiterated that the government values Raila as an African statesman, and that is the reason they support his bid for African Union Commission Chairperson.

Raila said the document is not perfect but a good start and can put the country on the path of stability and progress.

According to the opposition leader, there are things they disagreed on for instance the issue of cost living. He revealed that the government requested that the opposition leave the matter to them as they were figuring out how to solve it.

"We also got positive feedback on the transfer of all devolved functions to the devolved units."

"Issues in this report are Kenyan issues and should bring us together and not divide us, "said Raila.

Raila said they want the report to be implemented as it is without any changes. He urged parliamentary leadership from both sides to provide leadership to ensure this is done.

"I will get in touch with President William Ruto to see if we can get together to ensure that matters here are implemented in full, "said Raila.

The report is set to be presented to Ruto officially to clear the way for action by parliamentarians.
