Nominated MP Denar Hamisi is dead, National Assembly confirms
Nominated MP Denar Hamisi died on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7:00 am, the National Assembly has confirmed. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has formed a team to coordinate his funeral arrangements.
The National Assembly has suffered a profound loss following the sudden passing of Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi.
Denar died on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at around 7:00 am, leaving colleagues and the nation mourning the departure of a dedicated public servant.

In a communication, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, described the passing as “a great loss not only to the House but also to the nation at large.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025,” said Wetang’ula.
Wetang’ula conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and all who had the privilege of experiencing Denar’s humility and unwavering commitment to public service.
Denar, who was nominated to Parliament following the 2022 General Elections under the Amani National Congress (ANC) party, served with distinction on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
Throughout his tenure, he was known for his diligence and dedication to advancing legislative work and promoting national unity.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, Denar pursued his early education at Mombasa Baptist High School, where he completed both the Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) and Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE).
He later attended the United States International University (USIU), earning a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management in 2000 and a Masters in International Business Administration (MIBA) in 2002.
He furthered his studies at the University of Nairobi, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2006.
Before joining Parliament, Denar built a distinguished career across both public and private sectors.
He held several notable positions, including Director at the Coast Development Authority (2007–2010), Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) (2007–2008), Director at Kenya Airports Authority (2009–2012), Director at Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011–2012), and council member at both the University of Nairobi (2013–2018) and Moi University (2021–2022). Colleagues remember him as humble, principled, and devoted to service.
In response to his death, Speaker Wetang’ula announced the formation of a team to liaise with Denar’s family and coordinate a befitting send-off.
The team will be led by the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, MP Owen Baya.
