Several people have been killed after a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) chopper crashed at the Kaben-Cheptulel border between Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties on Thursday afternoon.

The chopper had taken off from Cheptulel Boys Secondary School, where a security meeting was held to assess the security situation and possible reopening of schools along the Marakwet-West Pokot border.
The military is yet to issue a statement.
Isaac Mwaura, the government spokesperson, has urged Kenyans to stay calm and avoid any speculations concerning the military aircraft that has crashed.

Following the tragedy, President William Ruto convened a meeting at State House, according to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.
Sources indicated that the meeting was called to assess the situation following the chopper crash and make a statement to the country.
