Uhuru joins Kalonzo at church service in Kitui

By |

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday attended a worship service at the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Mwingi Town, Kitui County.

The former president was welcomed and later hosted by Azimio principal and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his Mwingi home, in Kitui County.

Uhuru was warmly received amid wild cheers by the locals in Mwingi town during his surprise visit to Ukambani.

The former President has kept a low profile since he finished his two-year term and handed over power in September 2022.

"I have been threatened and told a lot of things. Each time someone fails to do their job, they blame the previous government. I am already used to it. It enters through one ear and exits through the other and life continues," said the former president.

Uhuru urged the political leaders to be selfless and prioritise the interests of the Kenyan citizens through servant leadership while insisting he is still firmly in Azimio.

"I am not afraid to say that I am an Azimio member. I take pride in having a political stand, I am not a conman who keeps changing his position and loyalties. That is what we were taught by our political fathers. Being someone who can be trusted today and tomorrow," added the former head of state.

“If we are being led by the spirit of servant leadership, knowing very well that we are in those respective positions we hold given to us by God, then we ought to serve not for ourselves but for the people we lead. Let us therefore not engage in negative politics but rather the politics which will uplift the well-being of the children of God."

Also present were Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, and members of the clergy, among others.
