Lamu regains lost glory after years of insecurity due to Al Shabaab attacks

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy on Sunday received more than 100 tourists at Manda Airport in Lamu as more were expected to arrive for the festive season.

Lamu County is regaining its lost glory in the tourism sector after years of setbacks due to the insecurity of the Al Shabaab attacks.

According to the governor, the arrival of a large number of tourists in a single day ahead of the festive season was a historic moment.

Timamy said the county was struggling to restore the sector after working closely with various stakeholders in the tourism industry.

“We have rich cultural heritage, attractive beaches hospitable people and more captivating sceneries, “said the governor who welcomed the tourists.

The governor who was accompanied by the County Executive for Trade and Tourism Aisha Miraj said the county will promote the revival of the sector to spur economic growth.
