Contractors handed reprieve as State waives renewal penalties

By |

The National Construction Authority stated that the waiver will be subjected to contractors only in five categories.

Contractors can now breathe a sigh of relief for contractors as the government announced a waiver for those who have defaulted on license renewal fees.

In a notice released on Tuesday, the National Construction Authority (NCA) stated that the waiver will be subjected to contractors only in five categories.

"We wish to advise contractors that the Authority has granted a waiver on all existing renewal penalties for contractors in default," reads the notice

"The waiver of penalties on renewal of practising licenses will apply to contractors in categories NCA4, NCA5, NCA, NCA7, and NCA8,"

The renewal and waiver period as revealed by the authority's Registrar of Contractors Maurice Akech will run from July 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024.

They will require the license to carry on their business legally as a contractor is applying for tenders.

At the same time, the authority reminded the contractors that the window for application for the next Financial Year 2024-2025 annual practising licenses will be opened from July 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024, as per the procedure detailed on the Authority's website www.nca.go.ke.

The contractors have been cautioned against making payments outside of the official platform, E-Citizen.

"All renewal payments are strictly through the E-Citizen platform," reads the notice further.

NCA made it clear that it has not authorised any agents to act on its behalf.

NCA is a State Corporation established under the National Construction Authority Act 2011, with the overall responsibility to oversee the construction industry and coordinate its development.
