Mr. President, today is a sad day in the history of our beloved motherland!
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has been monitoring the shocking
escalation of human rights violations seen in the last few hours including excessive use of
force and indiscriminate shooting of civilians by police as well as a section of violent
protestors.
Pursuant to its Constitutional mandate to protect human rights for all in Kenya, the Commission
hereby calls on your immediate and direct intervention as follows:
a) You swore to defend and protect the Constitution of Kenya. This is the time to do it!
b) The State is the primary duty bearer of all Human Rights and Fundamental
Freedoms. This duty rests with you as the Head of State and Government.
c) Issue an immediate order to the police officers to stop the killings, abductions, and
brutality. The Commission reminds you of your campaign pledge to end cases of
enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
Mr. President, save the Nation!
