President William Ruto plans to establish information and communications technology (ICT) hubs in wards across the country among the interventions he is undertaking to create job opportunities.
Speaking during a town hall meeting at the Kenya School of Government in Mombasa on Sunday, the president said the move is aimed at enhancing digital engagement among young people and women from less privileged backgrounds.

"These ICT hubs will be equipped with free internet and computers. Our goal is to provide the tools necessary for youth and women to start and manage their businesses online, including participating in forex trade," President Ruto explained.
The President's announcement is part of a broader strategy to foster digital entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
By creating accessible digital spaces, the government aims to bridge the gap for those who might not have the resources to start their ventures.
In addition to the ICT hubs, President Ruto discussed efforts to make smartphones more affordable.
"Currently, we have two companies manufacturing smartphones in the country. Phones that were previously sold for Sh15,000 are now available for about Sh5,000. We expect prices to drop even further," he assured.
His government, he added, had proposed to further lower prices of smartphones in the recently withdrawn Finance Bill.
"The bill was designed to lower the cost of essential technologies," he stated, adding that access to affordable smartphones is crucial for enabling more people to engage in online business and other digital activities.
He also emphasised the potential for online businesses to thrive and create massive job opportunities.
"There are numerous opportunities available on the internet. By lowering the barriers to entry and providing the necessary resources, we hope to empower our citizens to take advantage of these opportunities and improve their livelihoods," he noted.
Ruto said the initiative reflects the government's commitment to supporting digital innovation and expanding economic opportunities across the country.
