School watchman killed in early morning Garissa attack

A school watchman was on Thursday morning murdered and another man identified as his relative, seriously injured after thugs armed with crude weapons stormed Iftin Girls Secondary School in Garissa Township.

Roble Hassan, 54, and his relative Mahat Abdi, 35, were at the Iftin school compound when the thugs armed with crude weapons numbering 10 raided the school according to a police report.

"The thugs questioned the watchman and his friend what they were doing there and before they could answer, the gang turned on them using the crude weapons," said police.

The police report stated that the deceased succumbed to his injuries while Mahat who sustained multiple injuries was taken taken Garissa Referral Hospital and is in stable condition.

Zeinab Kosar, the school principal, said the thugs broke into three offices before they stole one computer.

"They vandalised the offices of the school principal, the secretary and the bursar. So far we have found one computer was missing," she told The Eastleigh Voice.

She said following the shocking incident the school on Thursday suspended learning activities to mourn with the family members of the murdered school watchman.

Ahmed Hassan, an elder brother of the deceased said his slain brother had left behind two children and the family was in preparations to bury him on Thursday.

He called upon the police to investigate the grisly murder of his brother and arrest the perpetrators.

Garissa town was recently gripped by a wave of violence by teen gangs armed with matchets which has called a public outcry.
