KRA announces auction of unclaimed luxury cars, goods in 30 days

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced its intention to auction various unclaimed goods stored in warehouses in Nairobi and Mombasa if the owners do not retrieve them within the next 30 days.

The items slated for auction include luxury cars, household items, construction materials, and food supplies, among others.

In a gazette notice, KRA revealed that some of the uncollected goods were initially meant for South Sudan.

Among these are 1,100 cases of beer, which arrived in Kenya on March 4, 2014, and have remained unclaimed in a customs warehouse in Mombasa since then.

The consignment, according to the notice published on September 20, was meant for Lamwia International Trading Company Ltd.

Additionally, 2,030 packages of beer currently stored in Nairobi, which arrived on July 22, 2024, are also at risk of auction. These goods were consigned to Maza General Trading Company and were also headed for South Sudan.

"Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Inland Container Depot, Nairobi within thirty (30) days of this notice, they may be sold by public auction on 21st October 2024, 22nd October 2024 and 23rd October 2024 via online auction https://ibid.kra.go.ke/," reads the notice signed by George Aduwi, Chief Manager at the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi.

Additionally, high-end vehicles stored at Container Freight Stations (CFS) in Mombasa are also facing the auction hammer. These include brands such as Toyota Lexus, Mercedes Benz, BMW X3, and Audi Q5.

The notice signed by Evanson Mairura, Chief Manager of CFS Operations, indicated that potential buyers can view the vehicles on October 21 and 22 during office hours.

KRA frequently auctions abandoned goods. However, some items remain unsold for years due to a lack of competitive bids.
