His family and colleagues revealed that Ayieko disappeared after attending a burial in Gem, Siaya County. His vehicle was later found abandoned in Sabatia, raising concerns about his safety.
Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Charles Wafula confirmed the discovery noting, “We received a call from members of the public who alerted us to a body near a stream in Yala. Upon arrival, we found the deceased handcuffed, which immediately raised suspicions of a criminal act. Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances of his death.”
Police investigations have revealed that CCTV footage captured two unidentified men abandoning Ayieko’s orange pick-up truck near a petrol station in Sabatia.
Authorities have said they are now working to identify these individuals, hoping they can provide crucial information regarding the incident.
“CCTV footage from the petrol station shows two men parking the vehicle before fleeing the scene. We are analysing the footage and working with our colleagues in Vihiga to identify the suspects,” Wafula added.
While the motive behind Ayieko's death remains unclear, investigators have launched a murder investigation. A team of detectives has visited multiple locations where the vehicle was sighted in order to piece together the final movements of the HR manager.
It was reported that Ayieko left Nairobi around 1 pm on Friday and was expected to attend another event in Kakamega the following day, but he never arrived.
Friends and family were left speculating whether his role at Wells Fargo could be linked to his disappearance, especially with the ongoing wave of layoffs in various companies.
Wafula confirmed that Ayieko's body has been moved to the Aga Khan Hospital mortuary for preservation, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
“We urge anyone with information that could aid this investigation to come forward. Every piece of information is vital at this point,” he said, noting that public cooperation has been beneficial thus far.
