President Ruto appoints former governor Kidero, Raila’s sister to key state jobs

President Ruto's ongoing effort to consolidate his leadership team is evident in his latest appointments.
President William Ruto has appointed former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero and Wenwa Akinyi, the sister of opposition leader Raila Odinga, to prestigious state positions.
Kidero, who has been politically side-lined since his loss in the 2022 Homa Bay gubernatorial contest, has been named the chairperson of the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC) Board of Directors for a three-year term. This appointment revokes the tenure of Hussein Debasso, the previous chair.

Last year, the courts nullified the appointments of a group of 2022 election losers, including Kidero, as Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS). President Ruto's ongoing effort to consolidate his leadership team is evident in his latest appointments.
In the same gazette notice announcing Kidero’s appointment, the President also appointed Dr Wenwa Akinyi as the chairperson of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute for a three-year term.
Akinyi is a respected academic and public servant, and her appointment underscores the administration’s focus on leveraging expertise in critical sectors.
Other appointments include Teobald Wambugu as chairperson of the Tana Water Works Development Agency and Thuo Mathenge as chairperson of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation, both for three-year terms
