Gachagua allies demand probe into Limuru chaos, accuse police of abducting ex-MP Mwathi

Thang'wa stated that Mwathi was taken away by men in Subaru vehicles, and he accused the DCI of refusing to provide information on the former MP's whereabouts.
Leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have accused the police of abducting former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi following a violent incident during a burial in Bibirioni, Limuru on Thursday.
The leaders, including Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa and his Nyandarua counterpart John Methu, visited the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in a bid to push for a quick investigation into the day's events, which they described as a targeted attack on Gachagua's life.

Speaking to journalists outside the DCI offices on Kiambu Road, Thang'wa said the chaos that erupted during the burial of Erastus Nduati was part of a deliberate attempt to harm Gachagua.
He claimed that hundreds of hired goons were brought in from neighbouring constituencies by state agents to carry out the attack.
"We came here to demand swift investigations into what transpired today in Limuru, where an attempt on the life of Gachagua was carried out by hired goons from different areas, not necessarily from Limuru. These goons attacked Gachagua," Thang'wa said.
Well-coordinated
He added that the former DP had been lucky to escape unharmed, but he emphasised that the violence appeared well-coordinated and planned.
The lawmakers also raised concerns over the whereabouts of Mwathi, whom they claimed was abducted during the chaos.
Thang'wa stated that Mwathi was taken away by men in Subaru vehicles, and he accused the DCI of refusing to provide any information on the former MP's whereabouts.
"We came here because we wanted to find out where former MP Peter Mwathi is. He was abducted by men in Subarus, and we know the DCI uses such vehicles. Unfortunately, we were turned away without any information. The Director of Investigations told us he could not listen to us and walked away," Thang'wa said.
Senator Methu, who spoke to Gachagua after the incident, condemned the DCI for failing to acknowledge their concerns and refusing to provide any updates on Mwathi's whereabouts.
He described the situation as deeply troubling for Mwathi's family.
"Rigathi Gachagua is lucky to be alive today. I spoke to him after the incident, and you could tell that he was not okay. He barely escaped with his life," Methu said.
"As for Mwathi's family, his wife and children are left in distress, not knowing where he is. The DCI has refused to give any answers," he added.
Mwathi's wife, Dr Anne Mungai, also spoke out about the alleged abduction.
No number plates
She recounted how her husband's car was blocked by two Subaru vehicles, which she claimed had no license plates, adding to her belief that the police were involved.
"Mine is just to ask the government to release my husband," Mungai pleaded.
"He went for a funeral, just like he has attended many other funerals in Limuru. He was taken by force. The vehicle he was in was sandwiched by two Subarus with no number plates, and I know that's the government behind this," she said.
The situation has raised concerns among Gachagua's supporters, who are now calling for immediate action to determine what transpired in Limuru and to secure Mwathi’s release.
The DCI has yet to respond to the claims made by the senators and Mwathi's family.
