Attorney General launches garden wedding services to enhance couples’ experience

Oduor said the newly launched VIP marriage room in Nairobi offers a premium option for couples seeking an elegant but intimate wedding experience.

The Office of the Attorney General has announced innovative marriage services aimed at providing couples with tailored options for their wedding ceremonies.

In a notice on Tuesday, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor announced the new services, which include officiated garden weddings and a VIP marriage room.

"Couples can now opt for garden weddings officiated by the Office of the Attorney General at a prescribed fee,” read the notice.

This service allows couples to choose serene outdoor settings, combining the beauty of nature with the legal formalities for a cost-effective but memorable experience.

Oduor said the newly launched VIP marriage room in Nairobi offers a premium option for couples seeking an elegant but intimate wedding experience.

This service includes a private, upscale room tailored for personalised ceremonies and the option for couples to decorate the space according to their tastes, allowing for a customised touch to their celebration.

"The VIP marriage room underscores our commitment to ensuring that all couples have the latitude to create meaningful memories on their wedding day while receiving professional and prompt service," said the Attorney General.

The services launched by the AG's office come on the back of earlier directives meant to boost the revenue generated by the government through marriages.

Couples who once paid Sh5,000 for the legal process began to incur a Sh50,000 bill as of November 6, 2023.

At the same time, pastors and marriage registrars have been given a shorter timeline to upload all marriage certificates.

"Every marriage certificate, whether for a civil, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, must be delivered to the Registrar of Marriages in Nairobi within fourteen (14) days of the celebration of the marriage," read a directive issued on September 3, 2024.
