Cabinet Reshuffle: Murkomen moved to Interior Ministry as Mvurya takes over sports docket

Murkomen had been serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports since his appointment on August 8, 2024, following the dismissal of the entire Cabinet by the President.
President William Ruto has made significant changes to his Cabinet, announcing new appointments and reassignments.
In a statement on Thursday, Ruto reassigned Kipchumba Murkomen from the Ministry of Sports to the Ministry of Interior.

Murkomen had been serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports since his appointment on August 8, 2024, following the dismissal of the entire Cabinet by the President.
The position of Interior Cabinet Secretary had been overseen by the Prime Cabinet Secretary in an acting capacity since Deputy President Kithure Kindiki's appointment.
Additionally, Salim Mvurya, who previously led the Trade Ministry, has been reassigned to oversee the Sports docket.
In accepting his re-assignment, Murkomen expressed gratitude and honour for being appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
He thanked President William Ruto for the opportunity to serve the nation in this new role, emphasising his commitment to supporting the President’s national security and administration agenda.
“I’m grateful and honoured to have been reassigned by His Excellency the President, as the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Administration. Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation in this capacity. I look forward to supporting the President in delivering on his national security and administration agenda.”
Murkomen also reaffirmed his dedication to serving with honour and dignity, vowing to perform the duties of his office to the best of his ability.
“In keeping with my oath of office, I undertake serve with honour and dignity and to perform the functions of my office to the best of my ability,” he said.
