Ababu Namwamba nominated as Kenya’s UN envoy in mini-reshuffle

The nominations were detailed in a circular signed by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.
Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba is among the individuals nominated for ambassadorial and high commissioner roles in Kenya’s foreign missions.
On Thursday, President William Ruto nominated Namwamba as Kenya's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).

The nominations were detailed in a circular signed by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.
“In accordance with Article 132 (2)(e) of the Constitution, His Excellency the President has nominated the following persons to serve as Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Kenya’s foreign missions abroad,” the circular stated.
Margaret Nyambura Ndung'u has been nominated as High Commissioner to Ghana, while Dorothy Angote has been nominated as High Commissioner to Zimbabwe. The replaced Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Andrew Karana has been nominated as Ambassador to Brazil.
Koskei confirmed that the President had forwarded the nominations to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, in line with constitutional requirements.
He further noted that the President is committed to enhancing government efficiency and service delivery under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). The realignment of ministries, state departments, and the foreign service aims to address emerging challenges and advance Kenya's development goals.
