Karua links state with recent abductions, demands release of victims

Karua also linked the recent abductions to the controversial disappearance of Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye in Nairobi last month.

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has accused the government of being behind the recent abductions across the country, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all victims.

Speaking on Friday, the Senior Counsel criticised remarks by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, who has denied any government involvement in the incidents.

"I want to condemn in the strongest terms possible the abduction of our youth by the illegitimate government of William Ruto. Although the Inspector General denies the government's involvement, I know it is security agencies commanded from State House who are behind this operation," stated Karua.

The fiery opposition leader went on to link the recent abductions to the controversial disappearance of Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye in Nairobi last month.

She alleged that the Ugandan military could not have carried out the abduction without Kenya's express approval.

"We now know that it is the Ugandan military that illegally arrested Kizza Besigye in Nairobi when he came to attend my book launch. There is no way foreign military agents can come in, get somebody, and move past the border with him without authority from the highest office," she said.

Karua further dismissed claims that Besigye's abduction reflected legitimate cooperation between the two nations. She emphasized that international collaboration must adhere to legal frameworks, warning against abuse of power by the state.

"We are reminding William Ruto that Kenya has a constitution and demanding that all abducted persons be released forthwith to celebrate the festivities with their families," she asserted.

Her statements come amid growing public concern over security and rising cases of abductions across the country.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday dismissed allegations by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah linking the agency to the reported abduction of Gideon Kibet, also known as Kibet Bull.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the DCI refuted claims that one of its vehicles, a white Subaru Forester, was used in the alleged abduction, terming the accusations baseless and sensationalised.

The DCI said that the allegations are being taken seriously and investigations into the reported abductions are ongoing.
