Uhuru sets date for special Jubilee delegates meeting

In a formal notice dated August 5, Uhuru issued a 21-day notice in accordance with the party's constitution, inviting delegates to the meeting set to take place at the Jockey Club in Nairobi.

Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta has announced a Special National Delegates Conference (NDC) to be held at the end of August, setting the stage for what is expected to be a major moment in the party’s efforts to regain momentum.

In a formal notice dated August 5, Uhuru issued a 21-day notice in accordance with the party's constitution, inviting delegates to the meeting set to take place at the Jockey Club in Nairobi.

“Pursuant to Article 8.1 and 10.1 of the Jubilee Party Constitution, 21 days' notice is hereby issued for a Special National Delegates Convention to be held at the Jockey Club, Nairobi, Kenya,” read the statement addressed to party members.

The agenda for the NDC includes receiving a status report from the National Executive Committee (NEC), reviewing and formulating party policies, and addressing other pressing matters that affect the future of the party.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of a Jubilee NEC meeting held earlier, which was chaired by Uhuru virtually, his first active involvement since the end of a series of legal disputes that had left the party’s leadership in limbo.

Even though he did not attend the meeting physically, Uhuru’s virtual presence was seen as a strong signal of his continued commitment to leading and restructuring the party.

His involvement appears to mark a renewed focus on strengthening Jubilee’s internal structures and repositioning the party within Kenya’s political landscape.

In a statement released after the NEC meeting, the party disclosed that the session had focused on assessing the current state of the party, monitoring progress of ongoing activities, and outlining a clear plan for rebuilding its presence across the country.

“The meeting deliberated on key issues affecting the party, including a comprehensive review of party affairs, progress made on ongoing programmes, and strategic plans for reinvigorating the party’s structures and operations,” the statement read.

Deputy Secretary General Pauline Njoroge described the NEC meeting as a crucial step in reaffirming Jubilee’s values and direction.

“This was a crucial meeting that marks a significant step in reaffirming the Jubilee Party’s ideals, strategic direction, and internal unity,” she said.

She also underlined that Jubilee remains firmly rooted in its opposition role, vowing to continue defending the interests and rights of Kenyans, especially in a political environment that continues to evolve rapidly.

The Special NDC, expected at the end of the month, is likely to be a pivotal gathering for Jubilee as it seeks to reposition itself and renew its relevance on the national political stage.
