Safaricom partners with Eastleigh business community to enhance network and internet connectivity
Safaricom has partnered with the Eastleigh business community to improve communication infrastructure and strengthen business cooperation in the area. The collaboration was formalised during a forum held in Eastleigh on Thursday, which brought together business leaders, Safaricom representatives, and key partners.
The discussions focused on three key areas: enhancing network quality, expanding internet coverage, and introducing smart meter technology.

Safaricom officials said the company’s main goal is to provide reliable network coverage throughout Eastleigh, particularly indoors, where users have reported weak signals. The firm aims to ensure that every household enjoys stable internet and uninterrupted mobile connectivity.
During the meeting, Safaricom urged real estate developers to incorporate fibre installation in new buildings. The company explained that having fibre infrastructure in every property will enable continuous, high-quality internet access and improve communication reliability for both residents and businesses.

Smart meter technology
Safaricom also unveiled its new smart meter technology, designed to help landlords monitor and manage water usage more efficiently. Connected through Safaricom’s network, the Smart Meter enables real-time tracking and billing of water consumption, helping reduce disputes and wastage.
Representatives from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) attended the forum as part of Safaricom’s broader strategy to collaborate with key utility providers. Safaricom officials noted that a stable electricity supply is crucial to the success of their operations, as network coverage, internet services, and Smart Meter functionality all depend on consistent power.
Stephen Maundu, Safaricom’s Territory Business Lead for Eastleigh, highlighted the area’s importance to the company, saying it has over 900,000 active Safaricom users—making it one of the highest-consuming regions in Kenya.
“Eastleigh is a place that is developing very fast, and we have seen many buildings coming up. We want to run as fast as they are running,” Maundu said.

Keep pace with Eastleigh’s rapid growth
He added that Safaricom intends to keep pace with Eastleigh’s rapid growth and assured business owners that the company is working to resolve network issues.
“We do not want customers to have challenges in the network when they are making their calls. We want customers to have good business and to provide them with good internet,” he added.
Mohamed Adan, Chief Executive Officer of the Eastleigh Business District Association, welcomed Safaricom’s engagement with local traders. He noted that many residents have been struggling with weak network signals, particularly on the lower floors of buildings, making communication difficult.
“One of the major problems was the network issue, and they have told us how they will be solving that problem,” Mohamed said.
He further explained that some of the interruptions stem from irregular power supply in Eastleigh, which affects the communication infrastructure.
Mohamed expressed optimism that the partnership between Safaricom, Kenya Power, and the business community will lead to smoother service delivery and more reliable connectivity. He said he hopes the collaboration marks the beginning of a new era of improved communication and service in Eastleigh.
